Fashionistas love skirts.. . . . My forte and focus is primarily on skirt design. The skirt is often overlooked as a medium of invention. At once flirtatious, enigmatic and structural, skirts are cool, comfortable, versatile and fashionablyright for any season. sladesign Fashion Show V, featured my exclusive skirts along with selfbranded sladesign dresses, ditops and tee shirts. Powered by a very personal set of love songs from a high school mix tape, the models stomped, walked, jumped, rode and pulsated through the dazzling space, in downtown Durham, NC. Golden Belt is an urban arts campus, housed in an old historic textile mill. Before the show, revelers were treated to gourmet wine and cheese provided by 3CUPS, from Chapel Hill, NC. Produced jointly in Ecuador and the US, this collection was inspired by love, weddings and sustainable public transportation: an increasingly essential aspect of day-to-day life given peak oil, extreme traffic congestion, and ongoing pollution issues all over the world. The collection is a blend of local, European and South American styles infused with weddinginspired fabrics such as repurposed 1980 wedding dresses, silk, satin, tulle, lace, and pearl embroidery in contrast with wools and cottons. All garments are original, handmade pieces inimitable, with no patterns for reproduction. sladesign fashion shows are characterized by my visible presence and commentary on the collection as it is revealed. A shadow show by the models and other participants, typically highlighted with props and a bit of theatrical flair, is another trademark. Also, post-show, viewers are welcome to come behind the scenes to meet me, mingle, walk and shop. This is the time the new and previous collections are available, in the flesh, for purchase. sladesign Fashion Show V had a much larger canvas to engage in visual artistry at Golden Belt than at previous sites: Carrboro Greenspace, Cats Cradle and Southern Rails Station. The show, as always, is in its entirety a product of the sladesign team, from concept and design to production. Special Thanks to: Christian Molina, Sammy Slade, Caroline Slade, Toby Briggs, Timothy Torres, Spencer Pope, Aeon Schmook, the beautiful models and anyone else who helped.
